What Happen When Two N.L Central Titans Met For The Division Lead?

With the series tied at 1 a piece and the lead in the division on the line the Cubs and Brewers locked horns at the friendly confines. The Cubs turned to rookie sensation Brailyn Marquez as the Brewers sent out up and comer Eric Lauer.

Right off the bat we knew we would be in for a great game as each pitcher was matching each other pitch for pitch. It wasn't until a weird third inning that the Brewers were able to break through. It started with a single by pitcher Lauer, who stole second on a ball in the dirt that skipped away. Sogard would drive in Lauer on a single up the middle to open the scoring 1-0. The Cubs just couldn't put it together as they had runners in scoring position on 3 separate occasions throughout the game but unable to score. The offense lacked the execution it had the previous day and would end up being the down fall of this game. The Brewers would tack on another run in the 4th on a double and a single to move out front 2-0. This would be the last scoring the Brewers would manage to get as they were silenced the remainder of the game. Marquez put in another quality start pitching 7 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 3. He just wasn't as impressive as Eric Lauer was going 7 innings giving up no runs on 5 hits and striking out 9. Josh Hader was magical in the 9th striking out all 3 batters he faced to get his 15th save of the season.

With this loss it pushed the season series against the Brewers to 2-4. Rookie manager David Ross had this to say on the loss. "That is a great group of players over there and they have shown us in the two series we have faced them. I don't believe they are as great as we are but they grind out every at bat, hopefully we will be able to take this experience and use it in the upcoming series we have remaining with them. Our batters have got to learn to be more patient against them, we really help them out when swinging at pitchers outside the zone."
