The Professor's Dominate Performance Backed by 4 Long Balls
Coming into today's game the Cubs offense was in question as the Dodgers had dominate starter Walker Buehler on the mound. Buehler who had to leave his previous start due to shoulder tightness told reporters before the game that he didn't think it would be an issue in this game. The first three innings he looked like the future ace the Dodgers had hoped he will be. He was curving the Cubs line up striking out 7 in just the first three innings. However, the wheels would all fall off in the fourth inning as both Contreras and Heyward would take him yard. Kyle Hendricks better known to Cubs fans as "The Professor" would oppose him and hope to get back to the dominate form he had in 2016. Starting in the first inning he looked sharp getting two quick ground outs, but the Dodgers wouldn't go quietly as Mookie Betts would connect with a hanging change up and send it deep to go up 1-0.
The Cubs offense would show that Dodger Stadium isn't big enough to hold them in the yard. As they launched a total of four homers with 2 coming off the bat of big Kris Bryant. The Cubs would chase Buehler off after just four and two thirds of work totaling 92 pitches. Ross Stripling would not have any better luck as he would give up a two run homer to Bryant. The Cubs would go on to load the bases in the fifth with two outs but fail to score. Bryant would do his thing again and show why he is a former MVP as he would take next reliever Scott Alexander deep on another two run shot. this would end the Cubs offensive production. Kyle Hendricks would dominate the Dodgers throughout the game with only two blemishes giving up two solo shots, one in the first to Betts and the second on in the seventh with two outs to Max Muncy. The Professor would go on to pitch eight strong innings giving up 6 hits, 2 runs and striking out 6. Brandon Morrow would come on in the ninth and struggle a bit as he gave up a hit and a two run bomb to Muncy.
This was a huge win for the Cubs to win in Dodger Stadium against one of their best pitchers. It was also nice to see the offense go yard and not be contained. After the game our reporters were able to catch up with Kris Bryant who had this to say. "Hopefully this was a coming out party to put the whole league on notice that we intend to win it all again this year. The offense, defense, and pitching was all solid tonight and really showed what we are capable of when it happens like that." We also went over to Hendricks lock, "all of my pitches were coming out good outside of the two hangers I left over the plate. I felt like i could of went nine innings tonight, but i get why Rossy took me out after eight. It's a long season and we need to pace ourselves for October" said Hendricks. As we could tell confidence is riding high with the Cubs and they are only gaining more each game.
