The Cubs travel out west in hopes to get back on track!

The Cubs headed out west in hopes to get back on track after a rough home stand that saw them go 2-4 against two future playoff contenders. The Cubs turned to undefeated Adbert Alzolay to turn their fortune around.

The Cubs would jump all over San Diego starter Garrett Richards early hitting him for 2 runs in the first inning and 3 more in the 4th. Richard couldn't even make through the 4th before getting pulled due to an inflated pitch count. The Padres bullpen wouldn't fair any better as the Cubs were there to make a statement. Star of the game was slugger Willson Contreras who had 4RBI of the Cubs 10 runs they scored. Adbert Alzolay took the ball in this one in hopes of continuing his undefeated streak. While it was not his best outing he would still be effective going 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 7 hits and striking out 6. He would get his 9th consecutive win of the season thanks to the offense waking up and score 10 runs to support his efforts.

Even with the loss the Padres did have a few bright spots and was able to homer off of Alzolay twice. One came off the bat of Eric Hosmer and the second one came in the 6th courtesy of Manny Machado. Tommy Pham even had a good day at the plate getting 3 singles in 4 tries.

Theo sat down with reports after the game to address the rumors that have been circling of a potential trade for pitching. "We have been looking into other teams to gauge who could be available as well as the asking price for certain players. As you Jon's contract is up after this season and he has expressed wanting to retire as a Red Sox. So we are keeping our eyes out for potential replacement. Now this doesn't mean we won't look to the draft coming up as a option either. We like to keep all option open and available for ourselves to be set up for now and the future."

Up next will be game two of the series which will feature this pitching match-up:
