Phillies take two of three at Wrigley, but Cubs Bounce back to Sweep Pirates!!
Coming into the three game set against the Phillies the Cubs have sputtered on offense. This series would show a turning point for the offense. While the Cubs could only manage to take the finale of the series, the offense showed some promises racking up 24 runs in 3 games. First time manager had this to say, “ The offense will come I know what these guys are capable of. I have played with most of these guys back in 2016 so I know its only a matter of time. We have just been thankful of how well the pitching staff has helped us win some games.”
Heading into the final three games at home before going on the road the offense exploded against the Pirates scoring a total of 43 runs. Leading the way was Kyle Schwarber going 7 for 9 with 5HR 2 doubles and 6RBI. When asked about his teams latest run David Ross had this to say, “ I knew with the work all these guys slumping had put in that it was only a matter of time. It has been an absolute treat to see the pitching and offense fire on all cylinders and show what we are capable of. I hope we can keep it rolling on the road trip."
We managed to catch up with slugger Kyle Schwarber who had this to say about the recent offensive explosion. "We know what we are capable of and showed it over these past few games. One thing about this team is no-one can hold us down for long." We were also able to catch up with all-star catcher Willson Contreras who we asked about the pitching."This pitching staff has been absolutely amazing so far. Guys are really mixing up pitches and getting guys out every which way. Brailyn has really been bring the heat this year its almost like catching chapman again" Contreras said.
Up next the Cubs will had out west for a 7 game road trip to top off 16 straight games. First up will be 4 games against the D-Backs than a 3 game set against the Dodgers before an off day.
