Cubs split series in Nations Capital, But take 2 of 3 at home!
After splitting the series in Baltimore, the Cubs looked to take at least 3 of 4 against the defending World Series Champions. The Cubs would start off strong taking games 1 and 2 of the series. This was due to the amazing pitching of the two rookies Marquez and Alzolay. The Cubs would then lose the next to in some really nail biting games. Sending them home from the road trip 3-3. Manager David Ross had this to say about the road trip “ anytime you can at least split a series against a club with that much talent early on really boost your confidence. I know we haven’t had the offense we had hope for, but I feel like that will turn around soon."
After going 3-3 on the road trip the Cubs headed home for some better luck. They would drop a 14-inning game to the Padres. They would bounce back taking the next two putting them at 2-1 to start a 9 game home stand. Mallex Smith has been putting in work and has his hitting streak reach 21 games so far. Also Anthony Rizzo’s bat has started to wake up going 5 for 12 with 4RBI, 2BB, Double, and 4HR’s.
Sports Gaming Franchise news team managed to catch up with both Anthony Rizzo and Mallex Smith. When asked about his recent offense explosion Rizzo replied with this: " I honestly hadn't even noticed. My goal is to make sure that I am doing my part for this lineup and hope that everyone else falls into place. If i have a great game or series that is great, but the ultimate goal each and everyday is to get the W, or as we say all the time fly the W." We asked Mallex about his recent hitting streaked. "Honestly I wasn't aware that it was up to 21 games, all I could tell you is i have been seeing the ball really well. I had been putting in a lot of work with the hitting coach to be the table setter and doing my part to get the offense rolling. Maybe i'll be able to be the record" Smith said laughing.
Up next will be a 3 game set at home against the Phillies and a 3 game set at home against the Pirates to round out the home stand.
