Cubs ride a 6 game winning streak, but it gets snapped in series finale in Baltimore.
After taking 3 of 4 from the Pirates the Cubs headed home to take on division rival Cardinals. Back by great pitching and offensive production the Cubs sweep the Cardinals. Both Brailyn Marquez and Adbert Alzolay looked very sharp. This very well could be the future 1-2 punch of the pitching staff for years to come. In the season finale the Cubs had a scare that could have been worse than it was. While diving for a ball Kris Bryant landed on his shoulder and was aggravated by it when getting up. Bryant would be removed from the game and would sit out during the two game series against the orioles.
The red-hot Cubs came into Baltimore looking to continue their hot run. In game one Kyle Hendricks was sharp through 6 innings before giving up 2 runs in the 7th, but that wouldn’t stop the Cubs from claiming a 5-3 victory. This pushed their win streak to 6 games. In the final game of the series the Cubs struggled to put anything together against left-hander Wade LeBlanc. The Orioles would ride a 3 run 4th to snap the Cubs win streak with a 3-1 victory.
After the game the sports gaming news crew caught up with rookie manager David Ross. When ask about how he felt the start of the season was going he had this to say: "Jumping out front to an early division lead will be key to our success. The last thing you want is a dog fight to end the season and not getting a chance to rest guys for the playoffs. This team is starting to feel more and more like the team that won it all in 2016. This really a great group of guys with one goal in mind and that is to win it all again."
Up next will be a 4 game set with the defending World Series champions the Washington Nationals in D.C.
