Cubs Look To Farm System For Offensive Help

The Cubs in desperate need of an offensive surge decided on Wednesday to call up red hot David Bote in hopes it would give the offense the jump start it needs. Bote who by analyst a sure lock to be the Cubs opening day second baseman struggled all spring batting a .190 with only 5RBI. He was optioned to Triple-A a week before the end of spring training. The Cubs decided to go with rookie Nico Hoerner. Playing with the Iowa Cubs the first month of the season has been very good for Bote as he posted a .342AVG with 1HR and 9RBI. The Cubs have failed to get any offensive production out of Hernan Perez so he was optioned to Triple-A in order to clear room for Bote. Bote spent most of last season being mainly a utility player giving other players rest for the day as well as pinch hitting where he thrived. One of his major accomplishments was when he hit a walk off grand slam against the Nationals at Wrigley field. During a press conference Theo had this to say on Bote, “we are really happy with the turn around that Bote has done down in Triple-A. His swing is looking a lot better and we could use a good jolt to the line-up that has had it’s struggles. Another reason for making this move is how great he is at pitch hitting, another place we have been lacking.” David Ross also chimed in on the subject “to be able to have a player like Bote in your farm system that can be called up is a great thing to have. It’s not just his bat and clutch ability that i like, but also how well his glove is and the ability to move him around the field to keep our players well rested.”
