Could the offense keep Alzolay perfect record going?

After getting the win last time out the Cubs looked to make it two in a row. The would look to undefeated Adbert Alzolay to take the ball. Opposing him for the Pirates Chris Archer was sent to take the ball and spoil the Cubs chance of winning two in a row.

The game got off to a quick start as both pitchers would work 1,2,3 innings setting the table for another pitchers duel. The Cubs however would jump out to a 3 run lead thanks to back to back homers. One of them being a 2 run shot by Jason Heyward which was his 3rd home run in 3 games. Alzolay would be sharp with not having his strike out pitch till around the 4th inning. The Pirates would get to him in the 8th with one run, but that would be all they were able to get. Alzolay would finish the game pitching 8 strong innings giving up 1 run on 5 hits and striking out 6. Rookie stand out closer Ryan Jensen would slam the door in the ninth recording his league leading 21st save of the season.

On the other side Chris Archer was sharp outside of a rough 2nd inning where he hung a couple of pitches. The Cubs did run his pitch count up but paid the price for doing so as he would fan 12 Cubs batters over 5 innings of work. The pirates bullpen was next to untouchable once again giving up just 1 hit over 4 innings of work.

With this win the Cubs were able to move out front in the National League Central division by 3 games. Adbert Alzolay was standing by after the game for an interview. "Being able to win two in a row after dropping two in a row feels great. We know that we are a playoff caliber team and we have shown it through stretch of this season so far. It really feels great to win 10 starters in a row and be the only starter this season to not lose or have a no decision" said Alzolay. Theo was also standing by, "I think it is a real testament of him getting his feet wet last year and seeing what hitters are looking for. We had a feeling we were in for something special this season just watching him in spring training. Let's see how long he can keep it going, because with an up and down offense so far we really need it" said Theo.

Up next the Cubs will go for the sweep behind ace Yu Darvish.
